The John Hulley OLYMPICS FESTIVAL consisted of the following sports:

We connected withover 10'000 children and established the John Hulley Legacy events.

The John Hulley Sefton Triathlon was started in 2002 by John Moran and a group of friends. It was meant to be a 'one-off' race to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee. However, it proved so popular that they decided they would organise it again the following year and the event has continued ever since.

One of the reasons the race has proved so popular is that the swim, cycle and run race distances are set at the minimum to encourage children and adults to 'have a go'.

In 2011 it celebrated its 10th year and it has achieved some impressive milestones such as Sir Steve Redgrave CBE becoming event patron, becoming the Largest Community triathlon in the World, has been featured on national TV and has raised over £300,000 for its nominated charities.

The THE NATIONAL SHOW AT AINTREE VOTED A HUGE SUCCESS

FIVE hundred horses – more than during the Grand National meeting - were at Aintree at the weekend, but they weren’t there for horse racing.

The National Show was held at the Aintree International Equestrian Centre for the third year, attracting competitors from all over the British Isles and some from continental Europe for £10,000 in prize-money.

Spectators watched a series of highlights over the three days of the event which included showing, working hunter classes and show jumping.

The side saddle high jump British record was broken by local rider Michaela Bowling on Laughing Larry who cleared 6ft 3in – just three inches behind the world record - during the popular evening performance in the indoor arena.

Remarkably, Michaela’s mount is blind in one eye and this was only the third time he has had a side saddle on, while the rider herself – a regular show jumper and former point-to-point jockey - has been riding side saddle for just a couple of months.

The runner-up in the high jump was Ireland’s Susan Oakes who broke the record last year with 5ft 11in.

Side saddle riders from all over Britain were at Aintree for their own class.  The champion was Morgan Shive, riding Nightwatchman, and the reserve Jo Hales, on Llanarth Hornpipe.

+

The John Hulley CROSS MERSEY SWIM is an extremely challanging event and only open to serious open water swimmers. You can imagine our delight when Kaitlon Hanlon became the youngest person to swim the Mersey at the grant old age of eleven!

The cross Mersey swim began in 1863 but was stopped by a chap called Adolf Hitler!

Liverpool heartbeat is proud to of re established the tradition in 1994

Kaitlon Hanlon is the youngest person to swim the Mersey at 11yrs of age
